Grains are the most important part of our diet yet we do not consume them in the right quantity. Grains supply our body the right nutrients, vitamins and minerals that help to maintain good health, improve the immune system and fights several diseases. Below is a list of 5 healthy grains that you should be eating for a healthy body.

1) Oats :

Oats are high in soluble fibre. They help to lower cholesterol levels in the body, improve digestion, help in managing weight and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Oatmeal can be consumed in breakfast and are also used as binders in burgers. Oats can also be used in baked goods oatmeal cookies.

2) Barley :

Braley is best known as the “fibre powerhouse”. It contains beta-glucan soluble fibre that helps to keep blood sugar levels stable which helps to maintain energy levels throughout the day. Barley can be added to soups and is also used to make a pilaf.

3) Quinoa :

4) Millet :

5) Teff :

Teff is considered highest in calcium and protein. Teff is rich in iron, fibre and thiamin. Teff grains usually have mild nutty flavour.  It helps in weight loss, increases blood circulation, improves bone health, boosts the immune system. You can cook the grain into creamy hot cereal or can mix it with vegetables and serve it as a side dish.
